lyrics
Our history is coded deep into the bone
every fall and fracture, every inch we've grown
caught in a cycle we can never read
it's awful and familiar, every word and deed
Chorus:
If I hold my hand to the fire
Hold it til it burns
ever time I pray for lessons learned
the time I worry
about what I might become
is when I turn away, when I go numb
In my hand I hold a cigarette, watching as it burns to ash
seems like it burned hotter some time in the past
watching smoke drift away, I can never doubt
when the fuel is gone, every fire burns out
Chorus
Some burn slow and smolder, some burn out in a rage
Some glow a distant beacon, an explosion, fireworks display
a spark in the corner lighting up the room
in the end the ashes fall when everything's consumed
